CHILDREN at a Southampton special school swapped their books for games during a fun day to mark its official opening.
Special guest was television personality and Daily Echo columnist Fred Dinenage who declared Springwell School officially open in front of invited dignitaries and guests.
Attractions included a picnic lunch, a performance by the Titchfield Primary School steel pan orchestra, a dance routine by Woodlands Community School pupils, a bouncy castle, face painting and art workshops.
The £4.5m-school, which opened its doors for the first time in September, caters for 60 children aged four to 11 who have a range of complex learning difficulties.
It was built following the closures of Ridgeway and Netley Court schools. The new building includes a multi-sensory room, soft play area, hydro-therapy pool, computer suite and purpose built classrooms.
Head teacher Jackie Partridge - pictured above centre in black dress with staff and pupils - said: "Our new building promotes many opportunities for our pupils due to the extensive range of facilities."
