RENOVATION work to restore a “shabby” war memorial has been approved by planning chiefs.
Plans to repair the structure and cladding of the Stubbington War Memorial were given the green light at the beginning of this month.
The Grade II timber-framed war memorial, located on Stubbington Green, is a First World War memorial built in 1922.
Residents have said the work can’t come soon enough as it has been looking “tatty.”

One said: “I have lived in Stubbington for over 30 years and agree that this memorial should brought back to a state where it doesn't look tatty.”
A Mayfield Close resident urged developers to make this a “fitting memorial to those who gave their lives in war.”
She added: “Each year there is a Service of Remembrance and recently the memorial has been looking very shabby.”
One comment submitted by a Pilning Close resident echoed these thoughts.
He said: “It’s very important that we don't forget our fallen heroes, regardless how big or small the memorial.
“The purposed plans of work would see the memorial returned to its former glory and fitting tribute to Stubbington's fallen heroes.”
