AN ICONIC powerboat that took part in one of the world’s most famous races has arrived in Southampton – and is looking for a new owner.

Double Century is one of 32 of the rare Fairey Huntsman 31, made by boat building company Fairey Marine on the River Hamble.

The impressive vessel took part in the Venture Cup in 1972, one of the toughest and most prestigious powerboat races, which comprised of a 15-day event covering 2,400 miles from London to a finish in Monte Carlo.

Owner Andrew Turner is hoping to find the boat a new home near its birthplace following his retirement.

“Wherever you go, people want to stop and talk to you about its history and that famous race. We have all the memorabilia to go with it which is simply fascinating.”

The boat has been moored on Lake Windermere in the Lake District where it’s operated at part of the Windermere Classic Boats fleet, taking visitors for luxury cruises of the lake.

Double Century is for sale through broker Martin Hasker at Nicolle Associates in Ipswich, who can be contacted on 023 81157012.
