A GREAT grandmother celebrated turning 106 with champagne and cake, surrounded by her family.
Phyllis Chapman's secret lies in her genes according to son Bob.
He said: "I think it must run in the family, her mum was 99 when she died and her sister Ivy is approaching 100.
"The birthday do went well. She doesn't like a big fuss. We all went for a pub lunch and gathered round for champagne and cake."
The former barmaid moved to Ripstone Gardens, Highfield, Southampton, with husband Eric in the 1920s.
The couple ran a newsagents in Woolston and had three sons, Bob, Derek and Les.
More than a dozen grandchildren and great grandchildren were at the Cedar Lawn Nursing Home, Romsey, to help celebrate with Phyllis.
