TWO Winchester buildings have been hailed in awards to find the best new designs in the region.
The Discovery Centre, the £7m revamp of the lending library in Jewry Street, and the University Centre on the university's main campus in Sparkford Road, have been shortlisted in the regional awards of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
The judges liked the way the discovery centre combines the 19th century corn exchange with a modern extension.
The other nominations include the Ocean Car Park in Southampton, the Pinewood Infant School in Farnborough, the library at Portsmouth University, and the listed wind tunnels at Farnborough.
The list is a fillip for Hampshire County Council's architects' department as they are responsible for the both the Discovery Centre and the school in Farnborough.
The winners of the regional awards will be announced on May 29. The best will then be shortlisted for the national final on June 27.
