The Queen is to visit Southampton to say farewell to the legendary Cunard liner, Queen Elizabeth 2 which is being taken out of service later this year.
On Monday, June 2 the Queen, who launched the most famous ship in the world at Clydebank more than 40 years ago, will tour the liner, meet members of her crew and wish the ship "Bon Voyage'' as the vessel is due to leave Southampton in November to become a floating hotel and tourist attraction in the oil rich Middle East state of Dubai.
The Queen has visited QE2 twice since the launch in 1967; on May 1, 1969, immediately prior to the ship's maiden voyage, and on July 27, 1990 to mark Cunard Line's 150th anniversary.
Carol Marlow, Cunard's president and managing director, said: "We are delighted and honoured that the Queen has chosen to visit QE2 to wish her farewell.
"Her Majesty has taken a close interest in the ship over the last 40 years, and I am certain this will be a memorable occasion for all involved".
Since QE2 entered service she has travelled more than 5.6 million nautical miles, more than any ship ever; has carried in excess of 2.5 million guests; has completed 25 world cruises; and has crossed the Atlantic 802 times.
