Like it or not, Southampton is a magnet for students. And a new batch are about to arrive.
Freshers' week 2022 will run from Sunday (September 18) until Sunday, October 2. Events, parties and activities take place across the campus and city, giving new students the opportunity to get comfortable with their surroundings and make friends.
If you are lucky enough to be heading to the University of Southampton or Solent University this year, below we run through the top events of Freshers’ week.
Whether you want to join a society, go to a BBQ, or meet other students, there's something for everyone.
The Solent Moving in Party
When: Sunday 18th September 10pm - Monday 19th September 3am
Where: Engine Rooms, Southampton
Price: Up to £5 (plus booking fee)
Details: The event's dress code is neon. There will also be neon face painting stations, beach inflatables and leis garlands.
Solent Students’ Union Freshers Fayre (Solent University only)
When: Thursday 2nd September - Friday 23rd September 10am - 4pm
Where: Sports Complex, Solent University
Price: Free
Details: You can visit hundreds of stalls, as well as collect a free SU goodie bag.
Welcome BBQ and Fair Ground (University of Southampton only)
When: Saturday 24th September and/or Sunday 25th September 6pm - 10pm
Where: Red Brick, Highfield Campus
Price: Free
Details: The first 500 BBQ food items will be free, however others will be available for purchase once these are gone.
The Freshers House Party
When: Sunday 25th September- Monday 26th September 3am
Where: Engine Rooms, Southampton
Price: £5-12.50 (plus booking fee).
Details: There will be free Domino's pizza, beer pong stations, giant inflatables, a raffle prize, an adult-sized ball pit and free sweets.
Back to the 90S/00S, Throwback Rave
When: Monday 26th September 10pm -Tuesday 27th September 3am
Where: Sobar, Southampton
Price: £3-7 (plus booking fee).
Details: Fancy dress is advised, however not compulsory. There will be old school hits, 90s inflatables, classic candy favorites and vintage giveaways.
Bunfight Clubs and Societies Fair (University of Southampton only)
When: Wednesday 28th September- Thursday 29th September 10.30am-4.30pm
Where: University of Southampton Students’ Union, Building 42, University Road
Price: Free
Details: There will be over 400 clubs and societies, with the chance to sign up to any you would like to join.
F*ck Me It's Freshers
When: Wednesday 28th September 10pm- Thursday 29th September 3am
Where: Engine Rooms, Southampton
Price: £5-12.50 (plus booking fee)
Details: This is an 11+ year annual tradition, known as a passage of right for Southampton freshers. There is Free UV paint, neon glow sticks, exploding confetti cannons and free sweets.
Freshers Fair (University of Southampton only)
When: Friday 30th September 10am- 5pm
Where: University of Southampton Students’ Union, Building 42, University Road
Price: Free
Details: At the freshers fair you can receive great student discounts, vouchers and freebies.
Get Loose Every Friday @ Sobar
When: Friday 30th September at 10pm- Saturday 1st October 3am
Where: Sobar, Southampton
Price: Free- £10 (plus booking fee).
Details: Listen to a selection of music from club classics, pop, RnB and hip hop.
Freshers ball 2022 (University of Southampton only)
When: Saturday 1st October 8pm
Where: Students Union
Price: £22 (plus booking fee).
Details: There are a variety of rooms to enjoy live music and food/drinks available to buy on the night.
The Southampton Freshers Wristband
When: Sunday 25th September-Tuesday 1st November
Price: £4-£40 (plus booking fee).
Details: A wristband purchase will give you eligible entry to all events on the “Southampton Freshers Wristband”.
