SHE had put any plans of going on holiday to her favourite destination on hold this year because of a lack of money.
Now lucky Hampshire grandmother Wendy Williams is looking forward to a dream break in Cyprus with husband Brian after winning £38,000 in the Daily Echo's Find the Ball competition.
Champagne corks popped to celebrate Wendy's welcome windfall after she scooped the bumper jackpot.
It is the perfect prize for the couple who today celebrate their 38th wedding anniversary.
"I just can't believe it. I am really shocked. It's such good news," said Wendy in disbelief.
"The money could not have come at a better time. We will probably take a holiday to Cyprus - we have been before and wanted to go again this year but couldn't afford it."
Wendy has also said she will give some of her winnings to her son Wayne, 37, and daughter Sharon, 34, who both live in Chandler's Ford.
She also likes to spoil her granddaughter Emily, aged six, and two grandsons Rhys, and Miles, both aged two.
"I am a bit of a softie and I would like to share my winnings with them," said Wendy who works as an accounts assistant at Titchfield Windows and Conservatories.
The 54-year-old, who enjoys keeping fit and going to the gym during her spare time, is also looking forward to buying some plants for the garden of her home in Rownhams Lane, North Baddesley.
It is second time lucky for Wendy, who has been playing the competition for just over a year, as she has already scooped a runner-up prize of £2,500.
"I really enjoy playing Find the Ball every week and if I am going to be away I always say to my husband what am I going to do about Find the Ball!'" said Saints supporter Wendy.
Husband Brian, 55, who works for Elliotts Builders Merchants in Romsey, was also delighted - but he thought she was joking at first.
