A HAMPSHIRE community foundation is celebrating after £300m of relief for charities across the country was announced in the Budget.
Chancellor Alistair Darling announced in his first Budget speech that as the basic rate of income tax falls by 2p he will implement a transitional rate of 22 per cent for charities, allowing them to continue to claim Gift Aid at the current rate.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation welcomed the announcement.
Chief exectuive officer Toni Shaw said: "This is great news for local charitable giving and will ensure that the maximum benefit can continue to be made from individuals gifts."
