Dame Kiri Te Kanawa
GRANTS totalling more than £36,000 have been awarded to music, drama and arts groups in Winchester.
Hampshire County Council awarded the grants to three organisations and a further £5,000 has been given to Winchester Music Club to help fund the costs of a concert in Winchester Cathedral on May 31 featuring world famous soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, pictured.
The funding is on the condition that local schoolchildren have the opportunity to watch Dame Kiri rehearse and that a contribution is made to city welfare charity the Trinity Centre should the event make a profit.
