SOUTHAMPTON'S Madeleine Henry has missed out on the chance to become the Godmother of the Independence of the Seas.
The 68-year-old was one of four women nominated for the special role by the ship's owners Royal Caribbean.
But a panel of executive judges decided Elizabeth Hill from Derbyshire would be crowned the ship's Godmother.
Madeleine, was nominated for the role for her four decades of work with polio sufferers and disabled children in Southampton.
The former IBM systems analyst, of Chandler's Ford, said: "I'm quite relieved not to win really as I'm not that keen on being in the spotlight. I think between the four of us we were all quite even. Elizabeth is a fairly bubbly kind of person so she will suit the role a lot better than me."
