FRIENDS of a popular teenager who died at his Hampshire home last year are holding an activity day in his memory.

Sports-mad James Salisbury, 17, was found dead in bed by his mother last October. It was later discovered he had been suffering from an undetected heart condition.

The Burgate School pupil, pictured, who lived in Hale, was a lifeguard at the Sandy Balls Holiday Centre.

Now friends and colleagues at the Fordingbridge resort are putting on a fun day to raise money for other young sports enthusiasts.

An inquest last year heard that James died of ventricular hypertrophy, a thickening of the muscle surrounding the left ventricle of the heart caused by an underlying abnormality in the heart muscle.

The sports day will raise funds for the James Sailsbury Sports Foundation Fund, which was set up by his parents after the teenager's tragic death.

The event, next Sunday, will start with a fun run in the centre grounds, open to anyone from Burgate School and Sandy Balls.

Centre managing director Tim Howell said: "James is a much-missed member of the team and we were all shocked by the news of his death. We are hoping to achieve as much as possible in support of his bursary."
