TWO multi-million pound research units are coming to the city to in recognition of the pioneering medical work carried out by Southampton University Hospital Trusts.
The two units will be worth a total of £8m during the next four years and are set to enhance Southampton General Hospital reputation as a world class research centre.
The hospital will be home to the only biomedical research unit in the country to focus on nutrition, diet and lifestyle.
The second unit will specialise in respiratory disease and new therapeutic approaches to lung diseases.
To be awarded one of the new National Institute for Health Research Biomedical Research Units hospital and university partnerships had to prove themselves to be at the forefront of medical research.
The Department of Health is setting up 12 such units across the country.
