MOTORISTS experienced lengthy hold-ups this morning with rush hour traffic coming to a gridlock on major routes.
Worst affected was the M27 eastbound at junction two where traffic in all three lanes came to a standstill shortly before 8.30am.
The M271 northbound also ground to a halt from as far back as the Redbridge roundabout.
Other delays were caused on the M27 by roadworks in both directions between junction 11 at Fareham and junction 12.

Traffic was also reported to be busy on the M27 between junction seven and junction 12 westbound and junctions ten and 11 eastbound this morning.
A police spokesman said that a broken down car in the outside lane of the westbound carriageway near junctions seven westbound added to the traffic chaos.
Motorists have been warned to experience delays as work to install traffic lights and resurface the carriageway gets underway this week at the Millbrook roundabout in Southampton.
