A lorry driver has been arrested following a fatal collision with an eldery woman in Eastleigh.
The 77-year-old pedestrian was hit outside the BP petrol station along Twyford Road, just before 12.30pm.
She died from multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, close to the junction with Milton Road.
A 59-year-old lorry driver from Romsey, who was driving a red Mercedes LGV, was left "shaken but uninjured" following the collision, police said.
He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving while unfit through drink or drugs and is in custody.
The accident, outside the Progessive Social Club, involved a Build Centre lorry with a crane on the back.
One witness said: "It seemed as though she tripped on the pavement and her legs somehow went under the lorry."
The A335 Twyford Road is shut between the roundabouts with Woodside Avenue and Romsey Road for a police investigation.
Junctions with St John's Road, Shakespeare Road, and St Catherine's Road have been shut. Diversions are in place.
Police said closures would remain in place until about 5.30pm.
Motorists are being diverted through side roads in the area.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash. Anyone with information should phone 0845 045454 and quote operation Calkin.
