NEIGHBOURS are opposing a Hampshire cricket club's plans to sell alcohol and stage live music.
St Cross Symondians Cricket Club has applied to Winchester council for permission to sell drink and provide entertainment at the pavilion and marquee, off St Cross Road.
But nearly 30 people living nearby have objected, with concerns about public nuisance and traffic danger topping their list of worries.
Two people have supported the application, but others are worried that the playing of music will affect enjoyment of their homes and gardens.
Noise They say they have had problems in the past with noise coming from functions at the ground, and that granting the licence would mean it could happen more often.
Norman and Karen Armstrong, of Grange Road, said: "St Cross Road is dangerous enough without alcohol being added to the mix for drivers using the club."
John Baskwell, of Grange Road, said: "The intention seems to be to turn the club into a social club."
If the application is permitted, the cricket club could have live music and dancing until 11pm and recorded music until midnight every day. It could also sell alcohol from noon until 11pm.
But in a letter to residents, club chairman Alan Taylor said the bar would be used mainly to serve members after matches and practice nights.
He said the club only intended to play music occasionally during the season.
The application will be discussed on Monday.
