THE wife of a Hampshire councillor died after developing deep vein thrombosis just weeks after flying back from a Caribbean holiday.

Pam Jennions, who was married to Milford-On-Sea parish councillor Peter Jennions, started showing symptoms of the travel-related illness a week after returning from Barbados.

The 64-year-old received treatment at the couple's home in Keyhaven Road, but was later admitted to Lymington Hospital.

After 12 days, she was discharged to recuperate under the care of her husband - but the condition deteriorated and she died on April 13.

A deep vein thrombosis occurs when a blood clot forms in a vein - long journeys in aircraft, cars and trains are believed to slightly increase the risk of it happening.

The couple, who married 43 years ago in St Saviour's Church, Bournemouth, enjoyed many overseas holidays abroad together.

They moved to the coast after selling their guesthouse in Hook and Pam could often be seen at a beach hut the pair had purchased near their home.

She was also known to enjoy line dancing which she did two or three times a week with one of her daughters.

Members of Milford-on-Sea Parish Council paid tribute to Pam by bowing their heads for a minute's silence at a meeting earlier this week. The funeral is due to take place on Monday at Bournemouth Crematorium.

Pam leaves a husband, Peter, and two daughters, Paula and Penny.
