PLANNING chiefs have approved a proposal to turn a Southampton shop into a tattoo parlour.

Applicant Helena Joyce has been given planning permission to convert the ground floor of a building at 1 Portsmouth Road in Woolston.

A city council report said the scheme would not result in any changes to the outside of the building.

It added: "Due to the small scale of development, it is appropriate for the use proposed to be located outside of the city centre.

"It would retain an active frontage to Portsmouth Road.

"It is not expected that the proposal would result in additional noise or odour impacts on residential or other business properties.

"The proposal does not propose any external changes and would help maintain the vitality of Woolston district centre by attracting people to the unit.

"As a result the proposal would not result in an appreciable change to the character of the area."

The application was approved last Thursday.
