A SOUTHAMPTON charity is appealing for more people to volunteer as non-emergency drivers for vulnerable residents.

Communicare is looking for people who can spare some time to transport people to their weekly community event.

The organisation looks after "lonely and isolated" city residents and hosts events such as the weekly intergenerational CommuniTea at Weston Adventure Playground.

The event gives friends and families a chance to catch up.

Annie Clewlow, manager at Communicare, said: "We have regulars who love to attend the events. However, we urgently need more volunteer drivers to provide just a little bit of time each week to help get them to and from the gathering."

The charity is ideally looking for those who have time to spare between 9am and 4pm on Monday to Friday.

Annie added: "We’re keen to hear from individuals who can help, even if they have just 30 minutes every now and then to spare."

Volunteers must have a current UK driving licence and a car.

All expenses incurred will be reimbursed.

Richard Plume, a volunteer at Communicare, said: "I have been a volunteer driver for the last two years.

"This involves driving service users to various medical and social appointments and helping those who need mobility assistance.

"I enjoy giving up my time for volunteering in this way as it is a rewarding experience."
