Compton blow away Hurricanes to secure promotion.

This was Compton's last home game of the season and the boys wanted to finish with a bang, and they sure delivered.

They faced a tricky tie against promotion pushing Hythe Strikers Hurricanes, and to help matters the pitch provided a surface more helpful to a water-polo team rather than a football team. Compton started the better of the two teams, and they adjusted to the conditions much easier. They took the lead following excellent work by Scotty Boeser down the left beating two players before squaring for Ben, only for him to see his shot saved by the Hythe keeper. Luckily for Compton Road Runner O'Rourke was alert to the rebound and tapped home. 1-0 The home side then doubled their lead when DJ and Road Runner linked up superbly down the right wing which ended up with the winger crossing, and finding Ben, who didn't hesitate in slotting past the oncoming keeper. 2-0 Hythe had two efforts on the Compton goal, but George was never really under threat. Then Compton scored a quick fire double before half time to effectively put the game to bed. The goal machine RR O'Rourke, who now takes his tally for this season to 12, scored both the Compton goals. Compton's third goal came about when the ball was switched from left to right by Jack, finding RR just outside the Hythe area. He tried to hit it first time but sliced his shot horrendously, however this worked to his benefit as it bamboozled the keeper and gave RR the chance to run around his dive and slot into an empty net. 3-0 The fourth goal saw David power his way through the Hythe team and eventually find Ben in the area, and just like the first goal he saw his shot saved by the keeper, but on hand was Road Runner to complete his hatrick with an easy tap in. 4-0 HALF TIME - COMPTON 4 - 0 HYTHE STRIKERS HURRICANES The second half continued where the first had finished, with Compton dominant and creating chances. Second half substitute Scott Barker saw his shot take a deflection which deceived the Hythe keeper and flew into the back of the net to make the score 5-0. Despite the Hythe keeper making 3 saves in one Compton attack, Ben scored the final goal of the game following a great cross from Jack to make the full time score 6-0. FULL TIME - COMPTON 6 - 0 HYTHE STRIKERS HURRICANES Man of the match: Ben Rouse. It was a tough decision for the parents to choose a man of the match for this game, as all the players worked well and remained focussed throughout this important game. Ben's excellent work rate and his awareness on a number of occasions to help his midfield gave him the edge and in addition to this, two goals were the icing on the cake.
