After a big thunder and lightning storm in which the boys warmed up the pre match nerves were at a high (and that was just the parents).

The game started at a good pace with both teams attacking, Jack and Tom seemed to get hold of the midfield early on with Alex marshalling his back line well.

Hythe's no 7 was seeing a lot of the ball down the left but Sam Jurd and Nathan teamed up well to make sure he was getting little joy.

George Elsey cleared the ball; Duane using his pace caused havoc amongst the defenders laying the ball off to Ben who hit his first time shot just wide.

Hythe then came back with a swift move and their no 7 broke through to slot the ball home, 1-0 to Hythe.

Compton heads never went down and from the kick off they were attacking again this time Jack and Tom interchanging passes down the right.

Connor (road runner) O'Rourke coming closest to equalising but his effort went just over the bar.

From the resulting goal kick Connor then fired the ball back over the keeper's head David Beckham style (against Wimbledon for younger readers 1998).

1-1 Half time.

The second half started off much the same with Compton attacking down the left, Jack shot and the keeper parried the ball over the bar corner to Compton.

Hythe cleared the ball Sam Lawrence won a tackle and played Scott Barker into space, he skipped around the defender to put Connor through, he shoots, beats the keeper only for a defender to clear the ball off the line.

Hythe attack again; Sam Jurd makes a great interception with the ball now at Scott Boeser's feet, he storms down the left wing putting the ball into the box, it comes back out and Jack hits a screamer into the bottom to middle of the net. (Sorry Jack my eyes aren't that good anymore). 1-2 Compton.

From the kick off Hythe attacked down the right, firing a shot just wide, George Stanton calm as ever watching the ball go past his post.

Hythe carried on attacking and the game went back and forth at a great pace. Eventually Hythe got their reward when they broke away and their striker fired high into the top corner. 2-2.

About 3 minutes to go and Hythe get a corner the Compton boys stand firm and clear their lines.

Iain is pacing the line like a nervous father waiting for a delivery, Dane keeps kicking water bottles and Clive is as cool as a cucumber, now where does George get it from?

The Ref blows the whistle they think its all over it is now, I think I've heard that somewhere else but as I'm too young to remember it you better ask Iain ha ha.

Where was I oh yes back to the final whistle the boys have won the league, everyone is celebrating.

I don't know if the Olympic committee are looking for a new high jumper but they need look no further than Dane who broke records with his bouncing up and down.

Can I just say what a great game of football with both teams playing their part.

I don't know if there was a man of the match but in my opinion the whole squad deserved it true Compton spirit.

Well done to the boys, Iain, Dane and Clive what a first season. Thank you Iain for letting me do the match report I hope I haven't bored you all too much. It saved me from kicking water bottles with Dane. Good luck for next year.
