Police in Gosport are hunting for the owner of a dog that attacked and killed a Yorkshire Terrier.

The attack on the small dog happened when its female owner was walking it along The Drive, near the junction with The Parkway.

They were approached by a large black Staffordshire terrier that attacked the Yorkshire Terrier, causing it fatal injuries.

The Staffordshire terrier was not on the lead and its owner did not intervene. The pair then walked off. The woman was not attacked or hurt during the incident.

The owner of the Staffordshire terrier is described as being white, very tall, of a skinny build, in his early 20's and was dressed in white.

PC Gerard Saltmer said: "We have conducted extensive house to house enquiries and witness interviews during this investigation but so far we have been unable to find the dog or its owner.

"At this stage we are appealing for the public's help in order to help us track down those responsible."

Anyone who witnessed this incident on April 17, between 9.30am and 10.15am, should contact Gosport Police station on 0845 045 45 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
