Visitors to a Hampshire beach are being warned to take care following an oil spillage.
The spillage at Stokes Bay, Gosport, has left deposits of oil on the high water line between the Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service headquarters and the Alverbank Hotel.
It is believed that the spillage came from a Russian Tanker sometime on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
After a member of the public reported the spillage, the council immediately sent a team of workmen to clean up the area.
However despite their efforts last nights high tide meant that more deposits have been left along the highwater line.
Notices are being erected warning the public of the pollution and advising them to be observant and avoid contact with the oil.
The Environment Agency has been contacted and investigations are taking place.
