UPDATE: The road has now been cleared and traffic is moving freely.

MOTORISTS are being urged to approach with caution after a lorry spilt its load on a Southampton road.

One lane is currently blocked on Mountbatten Way at its junction with West Quay Road.

It comes after a lorry dropped what appeared to be a metal beam onto the road at around 1pm today.

Southampton City Council's highways team are now urging motorists to approach with caution.

Recovery teams are on the scene as well as police to clear the blockage.

More to follow.
