A NEW bakery offering treats for pets - and humans - will be opening next week in the heart of Southampton.
The Angelic Kitchen will throw open its doors in the Marlands Shopping Centre on Saturday, October 1.
The independent bakery is owned by Alana Briant from Sholing and will offer cakes, cookies, brownies - as well as treats for pets.
The 20-year-old said she decided to add pet treats to her menu after noticing a demand for them in the city.
Speaking to the Echo about her new venture, Alana said: "I have five Chihuahuas and I've always baked them cakes for their birthdays. They are my little babies."
The shop will pet-friendly doughnuts, cupcakes, cookies and more.
Customers will be able to order custom cakes with Alana also specialising in buttercream cakes.
She added: "I have always been very artistic and buttercream allows me to create art on top of cakes, which is my favourite part.
"I will have lots more sweet treats available in the shop, such as brownies, cookies, rocky road, and more."
Alana used to work in retail before launching her own business, however, her lifelong passion for baking finally led her to take the risk.
While she is "excited and terrified" about the opening, she also understands the modern challenges her business might face, such as the impact of the cost of living.
Alana said: "It is going to be a difficult journey, especially right now, but I am surrounded by so many great people who have helped and donated."
She also thanked her parents, Wayne and Corinne Briant, and said that she wouldn't have been able to start her bakery without their support.
Alana will be helped by her younger brothers, Damon and Kane.
She hopes the business keeps growing and turns into something successful.
The shop will be open from 10am until 6.30pm.
