TRAVELLERS have set up camp near St Denys train station and have not left for days.

Southampton City Council will apply for a court warrant to evict them.

The unauthorised encampment has been at the car park at Priory Hard, Priory Road since at least Tuesday last week.

Last week, the city council verbally asked the occupants to leave and its Community Safety Team completed statutory welfare checks.

On Friday, a direction to leave was issued but the camp has not left.

The latest update is that the camp is still there as of noon yesterday and the council will go to court to evict them.

The council says that anti-social behaviour and criminality can be reported to the police on 101 or on the city council's website.

An unauthorised encampment is a form of trespassing under civil law, according to the city council website.

There is one Southampton City Council authorised site with residential pitches for travellers at Kanes Hill on Botley Road.
