A BELOVED butcher's shop has sold out on "emotional" last day after nearly 16 years in business

Husband and wife business partners, Audrey and Mick Kempton who own Kemptons of Bitterne, announced plans to close the shop last week.

The newly-retired pair were left with only "a couple of sausages and a bit of gammon" after selling out on their last day on Friday, September 23.

They have plans to visit family before flying to Cyprus where they have bought a new home.

Mick, 64, who has worked as a butcher since he was 14, said: "It's been bizarre and it's honestly a very odd feeling.

"Lots of people have given cards saying thanks and it's been very sweet but now I'm looking forward to going."

Audrey added: "People have come in that we have never seen before and said how sad it is that we are leaving. It is sad for us but also exciting to retire and move on."

"We're moving to a proper old-fashioned vineyard area of Cyprus and I think Mick plans to drink a bottle a day whilst I watch."

The couple plan to finish their time at the butchers by completing pre-orders for Christmas.
