BUDDING young storytellers from Shakespeare Infant School in Eastleigh enjoyed a visit from a well-known author and illustrator.

Simon Chadwick, who is behind the New Forest Friends series and illustrates Farmer Bryan's books about life at Longdown Activity Farm, visited Year 2 pupils.

As part of the Storytellers project, Simon gave a fascinating and funny presentation about his life as an author and illustrator.

He then did a live drawing of a character using suggestions from the children. His young vans voted to name the character Simon!

Children will now be writing about the character they invented with Simon and presenting their completed books at a special book launch event later in the term.

Simon also carried out a book sale and signing session, which proved hugely popular with the children and their parents and carers.

Daily Echo:

His New Forest Friends children's stories are told from the animal's point of view as they question the things we do when visiting their home.
