A PUB manager who has lost more than two stones is set to achieve his dream of running the London Marathon.
For a long time, Ben Stothard from Colden Common has struggled with his weight and binge eating.
The 33-year-old would often feel isolated and self-conscious about his look.
When he reached 20 stone in 2019, he was the heaviest he'd ever been and realised his XL or XXL clothes were becoming too tight.
Ben decided to seek therapy and make adjustments to his lifestyle as he couldn't take the constant strain any longer.
He joined Slimming World and said he felt in the "right place to get support".
Ben, who runs the Fisher's Pond in Eastleigh, added: "For a long time, I’d felt quite isolated because of my weight, and I would be very self-conscious in groups of people.
"At Slimming World, I've made so many friends who've supported me since day one.
"I’ve never once felt judged or criticised – in fact, I’ve only ever received kindness and understanding."
With the support of his groupmates, Ben was also able to heal his relationship with food, and so far he has lost 2st 9.5 lbs.
As Ben lost weight and gained more confidence, he challenged himself once again and took up running as a hobby.
He will be taking part in the London Marathon on Sunday, October 2.
Talking about his first ever full marathon, Ben said: "I'm really nervous as this is my first full marathon, despite having completed a few half marathons.
"But I'm equally excited to soak up the atmosphere of one of the world's most iconic events."
His mum and her partner are immensely proud of him and will be cheering him on as he crosses the finish line.
"My friends think I'm nuts for taking this challenge on, but everyone is so supportive," Ben added.
While thanking everyone who has been part of his weight loss journey, Ben said: "There’s no way I’d have lost more than two stones or be running the marathon without the support and inspiration from my Slimming World group and consultant.
"They inspired me to take my first steps to get more active and kept me on track.
"I feel part of such a special community and I know they’ll be cheering me on as I run past all the famous London landmarks."
Ben will be representing Slimming World and will help raise money for Cancer Research UK and the Irish Cancer Society.
