A SOUTHAMPTON pub has unveiled exciting plans as it undergoes a half a million pound makeover.

Griffin Bar and Grill in Shirley, which used to be known as The Griffin Inn, is under new management.

The venue is currently under redevelopment and will be ready to throw its doors open on Friday, October 28.

Located on Anglesea Road, the staff are turning the old pub into a family-friendly bar and lounge.

Manager Phillip Cornock said: "It feels great to see the changes we have made after refurbishment.

"I can't wait to see it open."

The lounge's owners said more than £500,000 has been invested in the location.

The two-storey property will be transformed into a family-friendly watering hole and restaurant with new furniture, new menus, and new staff behind the bar.

It will be pet-friendly and available to hire for corporate and private functions such as hen nights, and birthday and anniversary parties.

Griffin Bar and Grill will also feature Friday night's karaoke and disco and will have a pool table and darts.

It will serve old-fashioned drinks and cocktails.

Live performances such as belly dancing, sax players, DJs, and local musicians are also on the cards.

The pub's old furniture is gone and will be replaced with a more traditional bar setting.

There will also be 15 ensuite bedrooms for families or visitors wishing to stay.

The pub will be open seven days a week, from 12 noon to 10pm.
