A DRIVER has been spotted travelling the wrong way around a Southampton city centre roundabout.

The motorist was spotted "crawling" through heavy oncoming traffic and driving across three lanes on the Charlotte Place roundabout at Jurys Inn.

The incident occurred between 5pm and 6pm on Saturday.

Southampton resident Mike Ingram, 28, told the Daily Echo: "The traffic was heavy. The driver was crawling through it as we all were.

"Surprisingly the driver was calm for someone who was obviously going the wrong way.

"Imagine a school of fish all heading one way and there's that one fish going the opposite way.

"Me and my pals in the car were basically laughing the entire time it was happening."

The driver took the roundabout the wrong way around during the weekend's heavy traffic caused by a football match, train strikes, and several cruise ships in port.
