A RECYCLING centre was evacuated and closed after the apparent discovery of historic ordnance.
Hampshire police put a 100m cordon in place at the Somerley Household Waste Recycling Centre just off the B3081 Verwood Road shortly before 10am.
A police spokesperson said: “We were called at 9.37am this morning (Monday, October 3) following the discovery of what was believed to be a piece of historic ordnance at a recycling centre in Somerley, Ringwood.
“Officers put a 100m cordon in place and the site was evacuated as a precaution whilst trained officers carried out further enquiries.
“Police left the scene by 1pm.”
Historic ordnance can be an old explosive device that did not explode when employed, but can still pose a risk of detonation.
Hampshire County Council have been approached for more information on when the tip will reopen.
