IF you're looking for the craic, it's the place to be as no-one parties like the Irish!

Shenanigans is Southampton's only independently run Irish bar - and you can always be assured of a warm welcome wherever you come from in the world.

The bar, in Carlton Place, is a mecca for anyone Irish or of Irish heritage, as well as anyone arriving in Southampton and looking for a guaranteed party.

Eight screens show live sport, there's live music, often with an Irish or Celtic theme, and plenty of singalongs every weekend. Foot stomping Ceilidh band Jigs and Reels with their fiddles and bodhrán are just one of the acts to look forward to during October.

The 32 Irish flags festooned on the ceiling and around the bar, one representing each county, are also a real feature.

The wide range of Irish drinks available include everything from a pint of Guinness with your selfie, emblem or favourite logo printed onto the head to a dram of Jameson Irish Whiskey.

Daily Echo:

Baby Guinness shots go down a storm and there is a whole host of cocktails, including the Wexford Woo Woo, Long Ireland Iced Tea and the Galway Sunrise.

Shenanigans is run by Ged Gorrie, a Scotsman with Irish heritage, who spotted a gap in the market and launched the business three years ago.

Ged ran the Leisure World venues back in the days of Ikon, Diva, Jumpin Jaks and Hotshots.

He found retirement after decades running nightclubs across the South, including launching Oceana as regional manager for Luminar Leisure, wasn't for him and decided to get back in the game after spotting the building which previously housed Seymours was empty.

Daily Echo:

"I got very bored very quickly and saw the bar lying empty. I thought we could really breathe new life into the place, especially as there was no Irish bar here in Southampton.

"I think we offer something really different, especially as most of the clubs in Bedford Place are more younger people's destinations. Everyone is welcome here.

"People come for the excellent sports coverage and the atmosphere.

"We have a great Irish contingent including a large community of Irish nurses from the hospital and members of the Gaelic football team St Jude's, who are one of the best teams in the UK and train at Millbrook."

Daily Echo:

Shenanigans attracts all manner of sports fans, particularly Saints supporters enjoying a pre or post-match drink on a match day at St Mary's.

Students love the happy hour offers and the fact that Shenanigans sponsors several rugby and hockey teams from both universities.

A quiz now takes place on Sunday nights.

Shenanigans is open seven days a week, from 5pm weekdays and all day and until late at weekends.
