WORKS are about to start to improve two roundabouts in Stubbington.
Hampshire County Council will begin work on a £775,000 scheme to improve walking, cycling and traffic in the village next Monday.
They will focus on the roundabouts at the junctions with Titchfield Road/Mays Lane and at Stubbington Lane/Stubbington Green.
Temporary traffic management will be in place between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday for the works.
This means there will be single lanes approaching the roundabout and on the roundabout itself, which will be removed for businesses during Christmas and New Year.
Councillor Nick Adams-King, the County Council’s Executive Member for Highway Operations, said: "Having successfully delivered the Stubbington Bypass, these important improvements will help direct through traffic away from the village centre to improve the village environment for local people who prefer to walk and cycle.
"I appreciate that the nature of the work will cause some temporary disruption and our highway’s team will work closely with the contractor to ensure every effort is made to keep this to a minimum."
It will widen the footways and improve the road crossings at both of the roundabouts.
But the entries will be kept from Stubbington Lane and Gosport Road (north arm) at the Stubbington Green roundabout, as well as on the Gosport Road approach to the May’s Lane roundabout.
The work will be carried out by Mildren Construction and is planned to be completed by March.
The scheme is being funded by Local Growth Deal, Active Travel Fund and local developer contributions.
