ONE MAN decided to forgo a kayak or boat and chose to travel down the River Hamble in a handmade tin boat - all for a good cause.
Mick Stanley, known as Major Mick, embarked on a journey down the river in his ‘Tintanic II’ to raise money for Children on the Edge.
The 82-year-old set off from Fairthorne Manor and sailed to the Royal Southern Yacht Club on Thursday.
He has previously sailed in the Solent, the Beaulieu River, and various other locations as part of his impressive fundraising efforts.
'All about having fun'
Speaking before his epic sail to Hamble, Mick, from West Wittering, said: “I’m always excited for my sails and there is wonderful weather today.
“It’s a nice row, about five miles long, and it will take me between an hour and two hours.
“Doing this is all about fun, and while it continues to be fun, I shall keep rowing.

“The greatest compliment I can get is when a teenager says I am cool.”
Thanks to his fundraising efforts this year Mick has raised over £10,000 for his chosen charity.
This adds to his large fundraising collection, which now stands at over £73,000 which has been raised over the course of three years.
'Very grateful'
Mick said: “I have just reached the £10,000 milestone on my fundraising page and the Gift Aid will add about £1,500.
“I am very grateful for everyone’s support. What is so nice is that it’s been donated in drips and drabs, not just large amounts.
“A lot of people have given small amounts over a period of time.”
