PLANS to build more than 200 homes and a scout hall have been refused.

The application was for 221 houses and a building at Holly Tree Farm near Boorley Green.

In the plans were also parking, play areas, new accesses and other features including a pumping system.

The 10-hectare site is at on Maddoxford Lane, Botley and is currently agricultural land with a scrap yard and car repair business.

The development aimed to knock down the business along with two houses, outhouses, stables, sheds and cabins.

The application was made to Eastleigh Borough Council from development company Stratland Estates Limited.

It was for outline planning permission, with the site near the 1,400 home Boorley Park development and 100 homes based south of Maddoxford Lane.

But the council refused the application last Monday.

According to the Hedge End, West End and Botley Local Area committee meeting, the development would be "inappropriate and unjustified".

The committee believed it would be urbanising and visually intrusive to the countryside, and the benefits of the development would not outweigh the loss of agricultural land.

There were more than 50 objections listed on the planning application portal.

Maddoxford Lane resident Chase Gould said: "I am objecting to a further 200 odd houses being built on this land.

"There has already been and is still enough construction going on in the area. The approval of this will mean further years of more construction traffic on our road (which we have had for the last few years for Boorley Green) the house shakes when the tippers and heavy good vehicles drive by.

"I dread to think what that is doing to the foundations of the houses. 200 odd houses would also equate to a further 400 odd vehicles driving on our once fairly quiet lane a few years ago."

Botley resident David Gussman added: "There are far too many houses here now. We need to stop the planning being granted for housing in this area as we have enough new properties being built here and we need some green spaces."

But there were some comments in support of the plans, as 25 per cent of the homes in the application were proposed as affordable housing.

Resident Karen Wiseman said: "By building more houses this will allow the younger generation to buy homes, to stay within the area where they have grown up should they wish to and hopefully, with an increased amount of houses the prices may stabilise."
