SHOCKING footage released by police shows a speeding motorcyclist seconds before he struck three girls crossing the road.

The dramatic video captured the moment Oskars Bolsteins hit the brake so hard that his back wheel lifted off the ground in a futile attempt to avoid the crash.

The 27-year-old was travelling at almost twice the 30mph speed limit when he ploughed into the girls, who were crossing Onslow Road in Southampton on August 1 this year.

A ten-year-old girl sustained a serious open wound to her left leg, which required reconstructive surgery the following day, while the other two girls, aged 12, suffered minor injuries.

The court heard that Bolsteins, of Harcourt Road in Southampton, came off his motorcycle and the Suzuki slid up the road a further 31 metres.

However, he got back on his bike and pushed it away from the scene without leaving any details.

Investigations by officers found Bolsteins only held an expired provisional licence and was not insured to ride the Suzuki.

He was arrested by Kent Police on Monday, August 8, while attempting to board a ferry at Dover.

On Friday, October 7, Bolstein was sentenced at Southampton Crown Court after pleading guilty to causing serious injury by careless driving, failing to stop after a road traffic collision, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

He was sentenced to nine months in prison and banned from driving for two years.

Police Sergeant Nicholas Tucker, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: "Driving at almost double the speed limit in such a busy part of the city shows just how reckless Bolstiens was, and this footage shows just how hard he had to brake in his futile attempt to avoid the crash.

"Bolsteins showed absolutely no regard for those girls who were injured as he got straight back on his bike and left them on the road.

"Thanks to the bravery of the victims and the help of witnesses who came forward with images and dashcam footage, we were able to secure a positive result in court.

"I hope this case highlights how committed we are to bringing careless drivers to justice on behalf of their victims."
