POLICE have seized an e-scooter from a group of youths in a Hampshire town centre.
When officers confronted a gang of youths for using an e-scooter in Fareham Shopping Centre they fled the area.
During an incident the next day (Friday), the same teens tried to escape from the police again.
However, the e-scooter rider was caught and an investigation has now been launched.
A post from the Fareham Police Facebook page said: "The law states that e-scooters are illegal to use on a public road, with the exception of the approved hire scheme in designated towns and cities around the UK.
"The law also makes it clear that an e-scooter is classed as a motor vehicle and therefore requires a full UK driving license and insurance. This requirement is there for the rider's safety."
The statement went on to say: "Sadly, people have lost their lives riding e-scooters when they are not qualified to do so. Driving is a hard skill to master and maintain so I plead to parents...do not buy one and let your child go out on an e-scooter. They have not been trained in the rules of the road and the skills required of driving."
