POLICE have closed a major road as firefighters tackle a blaze.
Fire crews were called at 8.21am this morning to a house fire on Northam Road.
The road has now been shut near the property, with residents being asked to clear the area.
Police have shut the street between St Mary’s Street and Northam Bridge.
The police has added it will be working alongside the fire service to establish the cause of the fire.

Teams from St Mary's and Hightowns responded initially to the basement blaze however around 35 firefighters have now joined the teams to tackle the blaze, including one from Eastleigh.
Firefighters are tackling the blaze with breathing apparatus using hose heel jets and ventilation fans to tackle the blaze which spread from the basement to the ground and first floors.
