THE TORIES in Southampton have a new leader as Councillor Daniel Fitzhenry stepped up to replace Councillor Marley Guthrie who has resigned.
Cllr Guthrie has been the leader of the opposition at Southampton City Council since the local election in May (2022) after the Tories lost their leadership to Labour.
When the Tories were in power the previous municipal year, it was Councillor Daniel Fitzhenry who led them with Councillor Jeremy Moulton as his deputy.
The new leader took to social media to broadcast his enthusiasm.
Cllr Fitzhenry said: “I am delighted and very grateful to have been elected as leader of the opposition Conservative group again. I am very grateful to the team for their support.
“We will be holding the new Labour council to account on leading our city, building our team, getting out and speaking to our residents and businesses across the city with a vision to winning back control of the council again, restoring pride in our city and getting Southampton moving again.
“It’s great to be back and I’m looking forward to speaking to many of you on how we can build a great city together for the future.”
