A SOUTHAMPTON school has released a statement after two pupils were injured in a double stabbing.

Bitterne Park School said: "We are saddened that members of our school community have been involved in this incident and our thoughts are with everyone affected.

"We are working closely with police to understand the events that unfolded and to support their investigation."

It comes as police ramp up patrols in the area.

As reported in the Daily Echo officers rushed to Bitterne Park Triangle yesterday afternoon after reports of a serious assault.

Two boys, aged 13 and 14, both from Southampton, were assaulted and taken to hospital for treatment.

A police cordon was put in place on the approach to Cobden Bridge, opposite the Triangle, with officers remaining in the area throughout the evening.

Two 13-year-old boys and a 14-year-old boy, all from Southampton, were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. They are currently in police custody.

Meanwhile police patrols in the area have been stepped up.

Posting online Southampton Cops said: "We’ve been out on patrol today around Bitterne Park following a stabbing incident yesterday afternoon.

"Two boys aged 13 and 14 were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and are still there currently.

"We arrested three local boys aged between 13 and 14 shortly after the incident and they remain in our custody suite.

"What happened has understandably caused concern in the community but we want to reassure you that we’re not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident and we are working hard to establish the circumstances of what happened.

We’ll be on patrol throughout the day in the area, including during the afternoon school pick up time, so if you have any concerns please speak to one of our officers.
