She said: “Having the first Prime Minister of colour is incredible and something that should be celebrated by all. Representation matters.
“It is also great to have someone from Southampton, though I hope Rishi Sunak does more for Southampton as Prime Minister than he ever did as Chancellor.”
She added there are residents and families in Southampton struggling to get by due to the “economic chaos that has been created by the Tories”.

“It’s clear the Conservatives are only concerned with themselves and infighting. People I speak to want a General Election and I hope Rishi Sunak does the right thing and calls for one,” she said.
Mr Sunak automatically became Prime Minister after being the only candidate left in the Conservative leadership contest.
He will succeed Liz Truss after she resigned last week.
