A GLOBAL business has moved its second-largest UK office and become the first tenant in a newly refurbished landmark building.

The engineering, environmental, architecture and consultancy Ramboll has taken advantage of the environmentally conscious refurbishment of Twenty3 Brunswick Place in Southampton.

Ramboll has a growth strategy to be “the partner for sustainable change” and picked the building for its sustainability credentials.

Philippa Spence, Ramboll’s UK managing director, said: “Our new office has been intentionally selected and designed to support our ambitions around reducing the carbon impact of our operations.

"It was also important that we created an environment that promotes collaboration, flexibility, and the mental wellbeing of our employees.

"We are incredibly proud of the bar we are setting and I cannot wait to see the relationships we’ll develop, the ideas we’ll share and the challenges we’ll solve within this inspiring new space”.

Twenty3 is aiming for an “excellent” rating from BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) for both new build and refurbishment, as well as an energy performance certificate A rating.

Its city centre location with easy public transport links also supports low-carbon commuting.

The refurbishment and fitout of the building has involved reusing and repurposing equipment from Ramboll’s previous office as much as possible and ensuring additional furniture was chosen for durability.

Other design elements include a “living wall” planted into cassettes made in the UK from recycled plastic, the use of peat-free materials in office planting, and posters printed on plastic recovered form the ocean.

The office was designed for employee wellbeing, including sit-stand desks, huddle rooms, work pods, collaboration zones and independent focus bays. Staff are encouraged to move around these areas during the day.

Ramboll says the decor includes a nod to the company’s Nordic heritage.

The company signed a 10-year lease on its space in the ground floor of Twenty3 Brusnwick Place.

The building boasts the “highest quality and specification of any office development in Southampton". There are 62 cycle spaces, eight electric car charging points, as well as a business lounge and a roof terrace.

Four more storeys offer spaces from 13,00sqft to 52,345sqft.
