A NEW sports bar has opened its doors in Shirley after months of preparations.
Sony's cafe bar and bistro lounge, which has been eight months in the making, is now open for business.
Lounge owner Shiv Darshan, who used to be a construction worker, said he built the place all by himself.
The 45-year-old told the Daily Echo: "I have worked as a construction worker for over 18 years.
"From hitting the nails to decorating the walls, I have done it all myself."

The pub's interior has been kitted out with brand-new flooring, along with modern décor, and all walls are soundproof.
Along with TV screens, the venue features three pool tables, a chess table, and a fruit machine.
Shiv added: "We would love to see people come in to watch the games and just have a nice time with their friends and families.
"We have multiple TV screens showing Sky Sports and, in the future, for big games, we are planning to put projectors inside and outside."

The Shirley pub can seat 60 people inside, including in their VIP booths, and about 35 people can be accommodated outside.
Sony's cafe bar and bistro lounge is not only a new place to get a pint or a cocktail - it also serves Indian and Caribbean food, alongside other cuisines.

Shiv said: "This building was in very bad condition when I first brought it.
"I spent too much energy and time renovating it."
"My wife was angry that I was spending so much time here instead of at home with her and my son," he joked.
"When I was building this site, I was thinking of everyone, and I put in a lot of hard work here.
"I hope everyone can come here to support us and have a good time."
Shiv hopes to make his new business a success with the help of his wife, Evona Iwona Prsawdzic.
