THESE are the roads that will be closed on Remembrance Sunday in Southampton.

Commemorations will start with a congregation - including military contingents and the City of Southampton (Albion) Band - at the Guildhall Square.

The procession will leave the square at 10.35am and head towards the Cenotaph in Watts Park, where the annual Remembrance Service will begin shortly before 11am.

These roads will be closed for the Remembrance Parade, between 7am and 2pm:

  • Above Bar Street - From New Road to Cumberland Place
  • Commercial Road - From Havelock Road to Above Bar Street
  • West Marlands Road - Its entire length
  • Gibbs Road - Its entire length

The parade will start at the Guildhall Forecourt, before going north along West Marlands Road, turning east into Commercial Road, and turning north again along Above Bar Street to Watts Park.

It will then progress to the Cenotaph for the wreath laying ceremony and service.

After the service, there will be a procession going south along Above Bar Street to Guildhall Square, finishing at the Guildhall Forecourt.

For those who won't be able to attend the Remembrance Parade and Service, a highlight video will be shared across Southampton City Council's social media channels on Sunday afternoon.

The Lord Mayor of Southampton, Cllr Jacqui Rayment, Deputy Lieutenant The Honourable Hugo Cubitt, and Superintendent Chief Inspector, Marcus Kennedy, will be in attendance along with other key members of Southampton City Council.

Cllr Rayment said: "Each year, Southampton joins the millions of people across Britain to remember those that gave their lives for our country.

"Please do join us at the Cenotaph as Southampton remembers and gives thanks to all serving troops, both past and present and their families."

Archie Parsons from Southampton Royal British Legion said: "On Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, we reflect and give thanks to all those that played their part in bringing peace and those who helped to re-build our great city to what it is today."

More than 3,000 poppies will be on display at the Cenotaph, knitted and donated by members of the community.
