THE floors above Sprinkles on High Street could be turned into flats, if plans are approved.

An application has been put in to turn the empty first and second floors at 169a High Street into 10 homes.

The application, validated on Wednesday, was made to Southampton City Council for a change of use of the site.

If approved, the first floor would become three studios and a one-bed flat, and the second floor would be turned into four studios and two one-beds.

The studio flats range in size from 9sqm to 22sqm.

The application was made by Frontier Property Investments and a decision will be made by January 4.

This is not the only development proposed for High Street.

Next door to Sprinkles, the Chinese restaurant Shanghai 1814 will be getting a makeover.

Changes include a new Teppanyaki restaurant and sky bar with a "rooftop view of passenger ships", in an application approved by the council in September.

There are also plans for the former Superdrug store, at 179-180 High Street.

If approved, the shop will be turned into a Japanese restaurant with downstairs bar or casino.

It will serve temaki, with a drinks bar and a sushi bar for up to 100 customers, the application says.
