TRIBUTES have been paid to a cyclist who died in a crash in the New Forest.

The victim, who was in his 30s, was described as "a lovely man" by those who knew him.

He was pronounced dead after a crash in Tatchbury Lane, near Netley Marsh, yesterday morning.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses.

His death has shocked the community, with dozens of people taking to social media to send messages of condolence to his friends and family.

'He was so lovely'

Commenting on the Daily Echo Facebook page, Jenna Richardson said: "So sad he was so lovely. Can still see his cheeky smile now, after getting me in trouble in science when we were at school."

Tommy Crespin added: "Only talked to him a few weeks ago. Rest in peace mush."

"I'm so very sorry to hear this devastating news," said Jeannette Clarke-Hills.

Many sent their thoughts and prayers to his family and friends while others paid tribute to "a fellow cyclist".

The crash

Emergency services were called out to what they described as a 'serious road traffic incident' at 8.03am on Saturday.

Police say the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Tatchbury Lane was closed in both directions until 1.30pm.

The investigation

Police have not yet confirmed whether anyone else was involved in the crash.

A spokesperson from Hampshire police said enquiries remain ongoing.

As of today, there are no further updates, they said.
