A SOUTH coast cancer charity has secured a £35,000 cash boost at its annual ball - taking its rolling total to more than £1.8 million.

The sum was donated by guests at PLANETS Cancer Charity’s 80s-themed ball held at the Hilton at the Ageas Bowl.

The event saw supporters enjoy a three-course meal, a live band and entertainment.

Layla Stephen, chief executive of PLANETS, said: "We want to say a massive thank you to everyone for joining us at our 11th anniversary ball, with this excellent 80s-themed event being our biggest yet.

"These events are always such a lot of work for our small team and volunteers but seeing everyone have a good time for our cause makes it all worthwhile.

"The money raised takes our overall fundraising total to over £1.8 million and that has enabled us to achieve so many great things, including a network of patient support groups across the south, the the UK’s first mobile machine able to deliver radiotherapy during surgery and fund researchers and dietitians.
