A SOUTHAMPTON Subway has been slammed after it was found to have a rat infestation.
Subway on East Street has been given a one-out-of-five food hygiene rating after an invasion of rats was found living in the restaurant.
In a report, seen by the Daily Echo, the inspector said that there were cross-contamination issues, a rat infestation, and a lack of pest proofing.
But Subway has said that "immediate action" was taken, adding that health and safety are "of paramount importance".

The inspector noted that the infestation was "in the process of being treated".
The inspector was told by the pest control company that the rat entry point had not yet been sealed up.
The report also highlighted that there was a "lack of implementation of control measures" to stop the pest infestation from contaminating the food.
The restaurant was advised to fill any gaps and holes in external doors, windows, pipes, and drains.
Inspectors also suggested that measures were taken to secure and disinfect equipment, work surfaces, food containers, packaging, and utensils to stop cross-contamination.

Staff were told not to keep uncovered food or soft packets of food in the restaurant due to the rats.
The assessment was carried out on October 28.
A spokesperson from Subway said: “The health and safety of all guests is of paramount importance to Subway and all stores are regularly audited to ensure compliance.
"Subway franchise owners are expected to maintain high food safety standards in their stores, and the franchisee of this particular store has taken immediate action to resolve this issue and another inspection has been scheduled and paid for.
"Once available we look forward to sharing the result of the reinspection.”
In Southampton, 370 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings have been rated five-out-of-five.
None have zero ratings - the lowest score awarded.
