POLICE say a man arrested after a fatal accident at West End has been released under investigation.
A 28-year-old Southampton man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving a motor vehicle with alcohol above the limit, driving while unfit through drink, and driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs.
He was detained after a woman on the pavement was struck by a BMW at West End High Street on Saturday night.
She has been named locally as 50-year-old Teresa Grimes.
As reported in the Daily Echo, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family have been posting tributes on social media.
Floral tributes have been left at the scene of the incident.
A police spokesperson said: "The arrested man has been released under investigation.
"There is no further update at this time."
